Jane and Peter Smith is known for their famous characters, Impossimals.Impossimals derived from Peter Smith's childhood which progressed into an incredible collection of rabbits, giraffes and sheep. His inspiration drew from childhood books and their theme, stated by Smith, included "innocence, love and family values." The Impossimals are striped round animals with a child-like twist that highlights a fantasy world. This style transcends into their brand new collection, 'Lost Alice'.
Created in nine months, Smith originally desired to create the third series of his 'Lost Impossimal' collection. Alternatively Smith produced Alice, but with a different approach. Smith generated a new Wonderland, taking inspiration from all well-known children's books. Smith states that this version of Alice is a "... multitude of others, the same place in one form or another, a state of mind that goes one step beyond a dream." 'Lost Alice' consists of four sculptures and six paintings that exhibit Alice's story in a new way. The collection includes known characters: Alice, the Catepillar, the Mad Hatter, and the White Rabbit.
Influenced by Lewis Caroll'sAlice's Adventures in Wonderland,Smith guarantees " a broad new Wonderland that will expand to go beyond your wildest dreams." From what we have seen so far, Smith's 'Lost Alice' truly delivers.
